NJ Ride for the Cure! A moto-fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Research - August 11th

In honor of a long tme member of several NJ BMW clubs, Harold Gantz, the 4 NJ clubs are holding a scavenger-hunt sort of challenge to help fund research into a CURE for prostate cancer (aka PCa). 1 man in 8 will be diagnosed with PCa in their lifetime. If a family member has suffered with PCa your chances of being diagnosed shoot up to around 1 in 6. 230,000 men will be diagnosed with PCa in the US in 2019, and about 38,000 men will die from it. It is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death for males in the USA (lung cancer has the dubious honor of being 1st.) The diagnosis age is dropping - more and more men in their late 40's are being diagnosed. It has been called "the good cancer" - there is NO such thing. Prostate cancer is frequently fatal, and if not - the treatments for it can be disabling, depressing and make a man feel somewhat less than a man.

There are two great organizations trying to do something about these numbers. Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) in Malibu CA, and ZEROCancer in Arlington VA. The funds raised by this fundraiser will be going to both these organizations - both have shown they fund innovative research that HAS made a difference. Roughly 84% of the funds collected by them go back out into research. This is a very high percentage, and both are rated amount the top charities in the US. The fundraiser is self-funded (members pitching in) and partly funded by another charitable organization that specializes in funding startup charities. We are a registered corporation in NJ, and have 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS - meaning we are a charity and donations to us are tax deductable.

Please see: http://njrideforthecure.org for full details. The wind-up event will take place at Cross-Country Motorsports (BMW and other bikes) in Metuchen NJ on August 11th. This is a brand-neutral event - all bikes are welcome!
