    Mystic manual

    Hi,
    Recently purchased a 94 Mystic.
The PO gave me a clymer manual m502-3 the best I can figure out it really doesn't cover that model. Any idea on which manual does?

Pretty sure that is their correct book for your bike. That manual generally covers all Airheads. Your bike is a fairly obscure model, so there will probably not a manual for your specific bike unless BMW makes one. There should be references in there to any differences your model should have, but its a big book that will take time to get familiar with.

Remember we are not talking about a half ton Chevy truck where a million were made over a model run, there were probably only a few thousand Mystics made at the most worldwide, fairly hard to publish a model specific book only for that bike.

Any book or manual covering '94-'95 R100R's will cover most of the needs and issues of the Mystic.

It's hard for me to imagine that BMW service Techs in 1994 had to go to a Clymer manual.

    BMW Techs

Of course a BMW tech doesn't go to a Clymer book. They have gone for training and they have official BMW material along with the tools they need to service bikes.

I believe, shop manuals and tools are property of BMW or perhaps the shop, rarely property of the techs.

My understanding is a closed/closing BMW shop is required to return all official material and signage to BMW.

This leaves us lay people with limited resources. We either use the public published stuff like Clymer or, we find a tech or ex tech who got an official manual and will copy it.

Some manuals got onto the market when BMW pushed most of the mom and pop dealers out of business. BMW did not enforce their return of material or signage like they do now.

Good luck in finding something official. St.

Factory service manuals often leave out a good amount of information...that's where their tech school kicks in. I have the BMW service manual for my /7, but I rarely look at it. It's good, though, to have multiple resources to compare back and forth. They are not error free...even BMW's.
