A lot of things in medical research have changed in 65 years. I would like to think for the better.

That is true if and only if proper medical and scientific professionals are making the decisions and the politicians and their lackeys aren't.

I'm just hopeful "a lot of things" will change in the next 65 days! Also for the better.

We have a free-market health care system for those under 65. Accordingly, corporate greed drives our R&D.

What would you say is the difference between "corporate greed" and the capitalist profit motive?

Corporate greed is when I have to pay more than I think is fair. Capitalist profit is when I own stock in the same companies.

There is no difference, but public health and safety are not direct benefits of profit

Sure they do. Profit is what pays the taxes and contributes to charities. The profit individuals make from their labors, the profit small businesses make in their communites and even the profits corporations make and distribute to their share holders. We can all agree there are cheaters at every level and loop holes that need to be closed as well; especially at the corporate level, but profit is a very good thing when not tarnished by greed and corruption.

So, US healthcare is the best in the world, then.

Best possible outcomes to all citizens and at a low price.
