Crud on exhaust

Just did a few back to back 450 mile days in constant rain with a few more coming to get back home. Already the curves in my exhaust are covered in baked on crud.

How can I get this off? I don't want a new chrome look, just to get all that crap off and get back to the blued steel that it was before.

A couple times a year I use Mothers California Gold Chrome Polish on the headers.
I don't get carried away with it, just enough to clean off any baked on crud.

I regularly use the old fashioned steel wool which is impregnated with soap. Simply wet it and give it a good scrub. Since the chrome is harder than the steel wool, the chrome does not get marked, and the baked on tar and road rubbish comes off easily. I had grave reservations at first, but it works a treat.

WARNING: Do not use stainless steeel wool as it will scratch the chrome.
 
I didn’t want the chrome exhaust that came on my R1200RS: but I’m glad I got it now. It cleans up really easily.

I like the looks of the RS and R brushed finish muffler better than the chrome muffler but wanted chrome because I figured it would to easier to keep looking good.
