Clutch cable re-routing advice

DBCasey

Enjoy the ride!
In hopes of providing my wife with a more comfortable ride, I'm looking into adding a MV Verholen riser kit in order to for her to ride with a more upright position. Currently, with the forward lean of the stock seat, she sits on the forward part of the seat which slides her into the "tank" and gets uncomfortable after a long ride. Next will be new seat recommendations for a seat that doesn't lean forward, but that'll be another thread!

After researching the available risers, it seems that the only way to get enough clutch cable length is to re-route the cable to behind steering stem. As it sits now, the cable comes in from the front.

I'd appreciate any advice or info on doing this.

I understand that I will also have to extend the brake line. The MV Verholen kit comes with a 2" brake line extender. Installing that will call for a brake bleed.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Daryl

I installed a Rox Speed FX 2in. Pivoting Riser and I could leave the clutch cable the way it was. How high is your riser?

Guenther,

The risers I'm looking at will provide 2" of diagonal rise.

While researching this project I did find out that the F-GS clutch cable is longer than the F-GT. My other option is to order a F-GS clutch cable.

I added risers to my wife's ST for the same reason and was able to reroute the cable to work. I don't recall the brand of risers we used, but they raised the bars and moved them back also by about 1" each way. It was a long time ago so I can't recall the actual differences in how the cable is routed, but it is possible to do.

Throttle cable?

Any info on if I need to disconnect and re-route the throttle cable as well as brake and clutch cables?

I don't think I'll have enough length on the throttle cable as it sits right now.

Thanks again,
Daryl
