    1992 r100r oil pan bolt

    i was cleaning up the bike when i noticed one of the oil pan bolts was missing.
    turns out there is a broken bit still in there.
    i am going to drop the pan and see what is left
    any sage adivice?

    Interesting. I'm guessing that his is a Previous Owner problem. Grrrr. I wonder why it was broken. Pretty hard to break a steel bolt when tightening it into aluminum. With the pan down, hopefully you have enough of a shank to grab onto. I would use a good penetrant like AeroKroil or PBBlaster and soak the bolt threads...maybe you can see if the bolt comes through into the sump area. It could be that the bolt was Loctited into place. Might have to use heat to release the Loctite.

    Before you remove the pan bolts first tighten them to the correct torque value with a torque wrench that can measure inch-lbs. That way you can identify any holes that are stripped and in need of heli-coiling before you replace the pan
