As mentioned in another thread, I'm thinking of going south from the rally. I have friends in the Research Triangle area of NC, and they sent me a list of BBQ joints to visit. Even though this list is long, there are apparently more!

Carolina BBQ is good if you like the sauce to be thin and vinegary (unlike every other regional style).

There was a special on Tv about BBQ and where it was the best. It was interesting to see what people thought where in the country it was the greatest. Kansas City was mentioned as the hotspot, but the Carolina's BBQ was favoured by others as was Texas. I guess I'll have to eat my way around the country for a while.. :eat :laugh :dance

To be more exact, lexington style is a vinegar based sauce, and is not what you expect for barbecue. Other styles in carolina are dramatically different.

I will be in NC in a few weeks and report what I think
any near winston salem?

I got to try a bbq place in Charleston,SC awhile back, and it was really good, plus they sell their sauce... :beer
