Carb Sync questions

I'm syncing my carbs for the first time and as I've been tinkering, I've noticed that when I take the screws out of the tubes where I plug in the carb sync gauge, the bike runs better. Is there any need to use the fillister head screws? I feel suction from the ports, so I assume that the added air is making the bike run richer than it would with the screws in (the inverse is also true where when I put the screws in, the RPM at idle drop). Anyone have an opinion on this?

Don't leave those screws out...you'll suck in water, dirt, etc. Continue w/ the carb synch to make it run better.

What you are observing is a mixture adjustment issue. First, yes you need to put the screws back in when the hoses are disconnected. All you are doing with them out is allowing a little more air, thus leaning the mixture.

So you also need to adjust the idle mixture screws on the bottoms of the carburetors to optimize the idle mixture
