Disabling Fuel Low Warning Light - 2008 R1200RT

A friend of ours has a 2008 R1200RT that destroys it's fuel strip in only a fill up or two.

Question: Is there a way to disable the low fuel warning light? It stays on constantly and can be very distracting.

Also, in the extended warranty for the fuel strip, does the warranty include labor to install the new fuel strip?

    Appreciate the help.

Yes, parts and labor are covered in the 12 year warranty on fuel strips. Not long to go on a 2008 depending on original delivery date.

No way to disable warning light I know of.

Has it had multiple strips installed before? (then they know what is covered by the warranty) How does it fail every fill up or two?

I disable obnoxious lights with little rectangles of black electrical tape.

    Bummer...

How about installing the strip upside down?

Sticking a paper clip in the strip leads?

    No GS-911 workaround super fix?

Serious note: Paul has been charged for labor when the strip was replaced.

Could someone send me a link to the actual bulletin/warranty notice?

    Appreciate it.

No need for a work around until "technical campaign" is over. None known.

He should take it back to that dealer and get his money back (as stated in this letter to "BMW Owners") as well as a new one free............ Report that dealer to the mother ship. That is not right and he is being taken advantage of. IMO.

I don't know how the warning light is displayed on a 08 RT.
The same warning triangle may also be used for other problems like a low tire or engine problem.

Thanks for the link Gillie Dog.

I just traded in our 2008 K1200GT that had the same strip problem and for some reason I could not find the documentation I received.

I do have a work order for a strip replacement with no charge for parts or labor. Just needed to confirm it.

And yes Lee, that triangle warning light comes on for just about everything that goes amiss.

Putting a "band aide" over a warning light just doesn't seem right to me.

This post and another linked within it discusses a workaround but I havenít explored it yet. Just saved it for when my warranty finally ended which is this year.
