Replacing the halogen headlight from a 2016 RT with the LED headlight from a 2019 RT

Evening, hope everyone is staying warm in the polar vortex!

The 2019 R1250RTW has an LED headlight, with an option for an LED parking light.

The headlight assembly appears (from a distance) to be the same.

Anyone have an idea whether we can swap the bulb, or do I need the bulb and a reflector, or perhaps the entire headlight assembly?

Not sure about other 2019 RT's having LED headlight, but mine has a halogen (H7 / 12 V / 55 W). On a website that breaks down the VIN, it states that my bike has a deluxe headlight. Not sure what that means. I have headlight pro, which is the LED rings around the high beam lamps.

I wish it had the LED headlight, but it has the BMW LED auxillary lights mounted low, which is nice.

    Cheers,

I would think there would need to be some programming of the bike to permit this as the module must interface with the control module running on the CAN/LIN bus. The fact that it might have the same interface plug as your existing headlight, is only one part of the equation.

That LED headlight is expensive, so I would be very sure it would work before you plunk down your money! As a proven, and lower cost alternative, you could replace your current bulbs (including the "city" lights) with LED.

Additional details, but perhaps this is inaccurate

This article does appear to have some inaccuracies. It is indicated that -

"The R1250RT is fitted with a 5.7-inch TFT-color screen" The attached photo does not show this screen

"The R 1250 RT is equipped with an LED headlight." This differs from accounts of owners of this new bike

Can confirm that the new Mars Red R1250RT sitting in my (freezing) garage has halogens. During my research, all I could confirm was that '19 1250GSs were receiving LEDs as standard equipment. I don't believe this varies by market either; at least I couldn't see UK or Europe-spec RTs with LEDs standard.

My R1250RT did not come with the TFT color screen either. It is possible that as the production run continues (the new 1250 Rt still uses same design as 2018 chassis) they may use up a supply of the gauge clusters first and then introduce the TFT screen. Just a thought.
