One thing about BMW owners (that you may have already discovered) is that while some may complain about the price of the machines, many don't mind spending upward of $22,000 on their bikes, and $1000 on all the riding gear that goes with it, but then bitch and moan about having to drop $100 on maintenance...
The problems you read about in the forums only affect a small percentage of the units sold - There's a reason the GS and the RT are the best selling bikes in their class in many countries around the globe. ;-)
