I removed one of the speaker boxes and found that it weighs 1 lb 6.5 oz. Removing both will obviously lighten the front by almost 3 lbs up high. I don't use them as I listen to audio sources through the Bluetooth headset in my helmet. Has anyone else done this and, if so, noticed any handling difference?
Hexhead speaker assemblies weigh 2lbs 8.8oz each. I removed mine, but it was at the beginning of a 7 week winter break in riding, so I will not claim I detected a difference. Certainly did not hurt anything.
I'd hoped to use the space for storage but my dash panel has to come off to access the speaker grill screws. Some Wethead owners have reported they can use the space for small but seldom used items (tire plugs, emergency cash, fuses, etc.), so I assume access is easier.

I might notice 3 pounds weight loss on a bicycle. I certainly am not so perceptive a rider as to notice 3 pounds on a quarter-ton plus motorcycle. My hat is off to anybody who can actually, in a blind test, notice a three pound difference on an RT.

How much difference in handling do you notice from a fuel fuel tank to an empty one? I bet you don't even notice it and 6 gallons is roughly 36 pounds.
