Heated gear 2018

So with the current gear from any brand, are the heating elements less physically noticeable than the 'electric blanket wires' type in my circa 2006 Gerbings jacket liner? It's holding up well due to infrequent use but won't last forever, and I never liked the placement of the elements in the arms- no heat on the inner faces of the arms, which with a wide GS handlebar are exposed to the wind.

A couple years ago when I looked at Warm and Safe and Firstgear the wires felt the same as my 2003 Gerbing.

Not sure but the amount of wire to be powered has to have a limit due to amperage draw. I believe that the heating wires need to be "somewhere" so they are located in the best spots for usage and longevity of the garment. The heat provided is supposed to be retained with an outer layer which is used to provide overall warmth.

The Gen4 WarmNSafe gear uses heating panels instead of just wires threading through the gear. I think I recall Gerbing having a new offering using that same sort of technology. And, both manufacturers build gear as suppliers to vendors who sell heated gear under their own moniker. Be aware that such contractual arrangements allow for specification changes in the contracted gear, so while vendor B may advertise gear as “made by” that doesn’t mean it’s a direct duplicate of what mfg A is selling. Such arrangements are pretty common throughout a wide variety of industries.

First Gear

I really like my first gear heated vest because it has elastic on the sides and fits snug against your base layer. Very effective!
