Front fork oil for R75/5?

10drum

I live in a small town, I checked everywhere for fork oil that is listed in the Haynes manual. I use 10w-30 in my old British bikes. Any suggestions?

I think 10w30 engine oil is going to be too stiff. You want something that has around 7 to 10w in a fork oil blend. Seems like you could find other motorcycle shops with something that would work. There's also Amazon. Here's a page that Snowbum has on oils and viscosities:

Back when the /5 was a new model the fork oil used was 3 wt. Some of us found it too thin and went to 5 wt. Later BMW came out with 7.5 wt in BMW branded oil. I would not go heavier than this in a /5. I would go to any decent motorcycle shop and get 5wt fork oil. Bel Ray, Yamaha branded, Kawasaki branded, Honda branded and others are available.

I just went through my front forks and used Maxima 10wt fork oil. It seems to be fine. For the age of this bike, it really "drives" and handles well.

I did a complete rebuild on mine and started with 5w, but found it a bit soft, so i switched to 10w and found a good balance between ride and damping. 160 lb rider by the way. Cheers.

I use Pennzoil ATF fluid in both my 1978 R 80 with a Luftmeister fairing and my 1990 K75 RT
Seems to work just fine by me, those other choices are too expensive IMHO
Some of that stuff is so expensive, its outrageous, I can't believe they can sell it at some of those prices.
