I'm going to try hooking up some small LEDs for the rear of my 2016 F 700 GS to increase my rear visibility. Is it okay to simply tap into the existing brake and running leads? Are there two separate leads for these functions? I know brown is ground, but does anyone know what the colors are for brake and running light leads? Thanks!

The brake and running light leads are one in the same because the same LEDs in the taillight perform both functions. The bike's ZFE pulse width modulates the LEDs to make them appear dim for running and brighter when braking.

Hezezcan is supported now on the F800 series so I would send them an email and see if they thought it might work on a 700, since they are very similar (I would guess "yes".) Very easy way to add electrical circuits.

hezcam or other CANbus interface not needed for aux brake lights
FYI: Contrary to popular belief, a CANopener, Hezcan or other CANbus doohinky is not needed to just add auxiliary brake/running lights to F700GS (2016). A Clearwater Lights tech showed me how their "Billie Light Jr. can be added for rearward conspicuity, simply by Posi-tapping into two leads under the seat. Works like a charm; however, the same can not be said for the R 1200 or 1250 GS.

True, but I hate cutting into OEM wiring harness. Introduces a weak point in the wiring and if you want to sell on, looks messy and crude.

Looking at my Haynes Service and Repair Manual F Twins(06-16 F650,700,800):
Tail lights are Gray/Yellow/Red,
Brake lights are Gray/Yellow/Black.
LH Rear Turn signal Blue/Red/White
RH Rear Turn signal Blue/Black/White
License Plate Light Blue/Gray/Yellow
