What to look for when buying a 1200 GS?

I'm thinking about upgrading from my 2009 RT to a 2015 or later 1200 GS.

1. What should I be looking for when looking at a used GS?
2. Are there any known weaknesses in the years 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018?
3. What was changed or upgraded in each of those years?

2017 brought a new transmission. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think across the R1200 line-up. It shifts a little better than prior versions.

I believe some changes made mid 17 they are called 17.5 models if i’am correct
Buying used I would want to see service records, to ensure bike was at least serviced to Bmw specs
Money well spent would be to have a bmw dealer inspect and give you a written report on bike, several friends did this on used bikes and saved themselves a lot of grief later on

A known weakness is the fork recall that was for at least some of those years. Its easy to check that whether or not the work was done on any bike you look at by checking the vin number (as well as visually, although I can't describe what the changes are because I own an RT).
