    Broken Windshield Support

    All,

I was in the process of removing the headlight housing. As part of the process of removed the windshield and then removed the 4 pins for the support arm for the windshield, it was at this point I noticed that both long support arms on the left and right are broken. Are there aftermarket ones like the upper and lower arms? Or do I have to buy OEM from BMW?

    Thank you,

I recall that back when I had my 07 RT that there were aftermarket aluminum support arms available. I do not recall who made them or know if they are still sold.

    Try Parabellum.

    PGlaves,

I just checked Parabellum's website, and they do not have such an item.

    Thank you,

Unfortunately, that's not the piece that broke. It's the big long piece between that upper short arm piece and the bottom short arms. However should I replace the upper and lower arms while I have the bike apart as well as replacing this long support piece?

The piece that is broken is the piece that windshield screws into, it's this piece that is broken:

A dealer will want about $140 each for those pieces. Beemerboneyard currently has the whole assembly (sans motor) for $195.

I replaced the upper ones on my 07RT with a +2" Cee Bailey windscreen as I had heard the OEM ones break under high wind stress and didn't want to chance that happening on a long tour. PM me if you need info on where I got mine.

Yes, I would absolutely replace both the upper and lower arms since you already have it all apart. I bought mine from BeemerBoneyard (MOA discount!) and they arrived in a few days. Replacing the upper arms, which I did about a month ago on my '07, was very straight forward. I followed this youtube video by C Johnston.
