Drop Start/Kill button out the bottom and set aside in a cup plate or bag so as not to lose parts.

Clean out this area of dirt and grease. Clean these four contacts with contact cleaner.

Lift off contact plate and clean. The three bumps are the contacts that should be cleaned with contact cleaner.

Remove the two springs and clean them. Clean the center contact on the start button.

The start button/kill switch lever can not be disassembled any further. BMW does not sell this part individually. They only sell the entire right side switch gear assembly for $156 as of 2018. If your start button has broken off (It happens with 30 year old plastic exposed to the sun) you have three options; buy the new assembly, glue the button, or buy a used right switch gear assembly and remove the button and transfer it to your assembly. Any year or model K75, K100, or K1100 button will work, but the connector for the switch assemblies vary by year and model (but you only need the button, so it doesn't matter).
