Wethead bodywork Fasteners and washers

If one wanted to avoid buying the BMW fasteners then button head stainless fasteners with appropriate sized spacers could be used instead. Most of the body work are m5 x 0.8 fasteners. Personally I would avoid slotted pan head (e.g., use a "minus" screw driver). And I would prefer not to use phillips pan head (e.g. use a "plus" screw driver). I would prefer using either button socket cap (that use the allen key) or torx button cap screws. These fasteners usually lack the pointed end and do not have a flange head. A half-inch outside diameter (#10 or 1/4 inch ID) washer could serve instead of a flange head.

Some spacers that could be used are shown in the links below -

I found a better way to share for your use these "Boxflyer Boards"...(silly name Chris started calling them!).

I took some still photos in .JPEG format and will share them here.

The best part of what I have done is that I take these .JPEG images to FedEx Office on a small flash drive and they can print this exact image on any size paper you want, but I had very good luck with the 12x18 inch paper they have.
These were about $0.40 each and well worth the saving of time vs the way I made them up in the first place...printing out page after page of the PDF file and doing all the cutting and gluing to some foam core board. If you want the original PDF of the panels to do all the cutting and gluing, it's at the bottom too.

I don't know if these attached images are the high resolution of ~3.2mb that the actual file is, but if you need the file in its original size, I can send it to you in another size up to almost 16mb.

Just PM me and I'll send you the files via email if this is not good enough for your needs...Just PM, not here in the thread.
Hope this helps.

Can’t help you on the shouldered ones, but flanged button-head Torx fasteners can be found at https://www.belmetric.com/torx-drive-hardware-c-1226.html

Best,
DeVern

Just be wary of some aftermarket SS, they seem to gall and seize in the clips
and threaded rubber grommets. Have crossed paths with many older
RT’s with “ stuck” or stripped heads from removal attempts.

I have several muffin tins with sharpie writing in each cup with descriptions. Have diff ones for RT,GSA, R and such. Has kept things in order for me.

BMW tupperware washers....

When I have removed these T25 Torx fasteners I have sometimes had the clear plastic washer fall off and land on the garage floor. These fasteners become invisible when on my garage floor. It was thus necessary for me to come up with a strategy to replace the washers. An inexpensive, but seemingly suitable plastic material is the wall of a milk jug. I use a 1/2-inch hollow hole punch to generate a number of 1/2-inch diameter plastic discs. I then use a 1/4-inch hollow hole punch to create a hole in the 1/2-inch discs. The centering of the punch is done by eye and is approximate. These replacement plastic washers fit and seem to work well with the shoulder T25 Torx screws. The photo below shows the hollow hole punches, a piece of milk jug, and several generated plastic washers. -

A set of hollow hole punches can be obtained from Harbor Freight for less than $10. Link follows -

Good thread, thanks for the effort.

Washers can be bought on McMaster too, much easier than futzing around with punches or eBay: https://www.mcmaster.com/95606A430/

I have lost pretty much all the plastic washers on my RT's body panel screws and I haven't missed them yet!
