R1200RS Fender Extender/Protection

A popular option is a Mud Sling by Machineartmoto. This mounts in front of the rear tire and protects the shock...

Yes, I've looking at that exposed shock. My ST has a nice protector, but not so the new machine.

That would make a nice Christmas present to myself. :)

If you have a R1200R LC the RS rear fender I showed will fit your bike.

BMW AUS-NZ fender

If you know someone in the UK, the fender extension is available thru UK BMW MC dealers for ~37 pounds. Royal Post delivers to the US for ~12 pounds. The large padded envelope works quite well, it's a shaped piece of plastic sheet. That's ~50-pounds in total or $65 dollars.

I considered doing a bulk buy from the UK, but the added expense of US shipping from me to any US customer ($15 to 20) would raise the final cost to $80 or 85. That's a savings of only $10 or 15, relative to the KFM price.

fender extender/protection

I received my fender extender yesterday. It looks great, although I ran into a snag putting it on. The fender interferes with the rear mounts for the side cases , looks like I need to remove some of the fender material so that I can make it fit.
Has anyone ran into this? Is there a good solution?. Thanks.

I did not need to remove the bag mounts when I installed the rear mud guard but it seems like it was a tight fit to slip it over the cross bar of the bag mount.
Maybe 36654 has a better memory.

Lee is correct. Remove old part, then slide the new part between the bag mount crossbar and the bottom of the rear frame. It fits.

Thanks for the advice, the fender fit perfectly the way you described. I was putting it together in the wrong order. Looks great.
I am really glad I asked for advice, thanks again.
