Just run it until you have to go to Reserve; there is about 15 miles worth of fuel on either side. My "custom gas gauge" in the odometer. One less thing to fail.

It doesn't appear that this critter will be a long-legged touring bike.

Haha yeah Dime City is a great place to pick some stuff up.
Ill post some more custom things I did later...

Still deliberating on the gauge setup.
Been busy checking little things off my punch list lately.
    Stay tuned...

Pulled the trigger on the Motogadget ChronoClassic with the dark edition LCD.
Cant wait to get it installed. Question is, I think the current stock idiot lights are Oil, Charging, Turn and Neutral. The sun has obliterated the text under the lights.
I'd like the gauge to read the oil pressure, along with some other cool functions. Im guessing I need a new sensor for this? The stock one is simply for the idiot light correct? I feel idiotic asking that for some reason.
Also, is there a plug of some sort that fits into the old speedo gear hole? Its obsolete since there is a magnet that goes on the rim.

Couple recent things: Braided fuel lines, custom steering stabilizer knob (mine still works well) but snapped off the old plastic knob when removing the tank.

Coming together nicely! Is that 2" header wrap?

is there a plug of some sort that fits into the old speedo gear hole?
Probably something at the hardware store. You might look through the McMaster-Carr catalog for hole plugs > https://www.mcmaster.com/#hole-plugs/=1cncsnz

Keep in mind that the bolt that secures the speedo cable has a hole through the center to vent the transmission. Don't plug it up.

^ Its 1.5 Titanium black wrap.
Got the gauge. Could not be happier. It is a very nice piece. Here's what it looks like on the bike. Temporary toggle switch, until I get a better button.

    Broke down today...
Its good to know my new gauge charging indicator light works. I thought I could limp it home, but it sputtered and died. The gauge voltmeter displayed 9.1V whenI pulled it off the freeway. Tried to start it, but it didn't have enough juice to crank.
Its comforting to know that 5 bikes stopped to offer assistance and a few more were about to while waiting for the tow truck. I will definitely return the favor.
Got it on the hook, and took it home.
The charging system is one thing I did not touch yet, and now I need to figure out if the diodes, voltage regular or rotor are shot.
Is there an upgraded charging kit? (earomotor electrics?) or is stock good, and mines is just worn out?

Maybe it's just the battery? 9 out of 10 times, that's the issue. Have it load tested. While you've had it, have you measured the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running at around 3K RPM...should be well above 13.5v.

Haven't had it load tested, its rather new, but small. I did check running voltage when I got the bike and I think I remember it was in the 13's. I charged it overnight, and will fire it up and check to verify. Then, start chasing down the other possible culprits. Who is Rick Jones?

Ahhh, intriguing. How does his stuff compare to EME stuff? Im not sure I need 600watts, but I did want to upgrade the stock system.

Verify all grounds before spending $.
The battery & diode board ground straps were replaced on my 76 R90 a couple years ago, it’s the original charging system otherwise.

Mine just went Tango Uniform. It's almost five years old; a pretty good run nowadays. It was always on a Schumacher battery tender when garaged.

Speaking of Rick Jones ... he's been in absentia. He didn't return two of my calls, has anyone actually spoken with him lately?
