2007 K12GT bike help in the Des Moines area

brianhinton

2018 Rally Chair
Hello K bikers. On my recent trip to Des Moines to do a second rally site visit, I took a tumble on an icy bridge outside of St. Louis. My ‘07 K12GT went down on the right side and when it came to it’s resting spot after sliding 30 yards or so, my windshield was broke in half. The shield that broke is a Cee Baileys and my stock is back in Alabama. Question is....does anyone in the Des Moines area have a shield they would get rid of or let me use for my return trip to Alabama on Tuesday? I would try the local dealer or one close by, but they are all closed on Monday and I’ll be in meetings most of the day. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you - Brian Hinton, please text or call

Is there anyone back home who could overnight your spare screen to you? Or, if you have the pieces, could you bodge it back together with Gorilla tape well enough to get you home?

This is a long shot, but try Jim at Cycle Clinic in Des Moines 515-288-6954.
Jim used to own the Des Moines BMW shop and may know someone who can help.

Val Wall BMW in Indianola opens at 9:00 today.
Indianola is a little south of Des Moines.
Dan in parts 515-961-6288

I'll call

I don’t have the broken piece and there is no one back home to ship overnight.

Go to the big box store and buy some plexiglass and a couple of aluminum channels for support as needed. A hacksaw and fashion something that might be useful. Otherwise, unless someone can come up with a spare, then it's hunker down until the trip can be made. Or find a place to leave it, fly home, get stuff, and drive a trailer back.

Also you should be checking the anonymous book.

Brian has to head home tomorrow. Chuck Manley is trying to have the St Louis shop find a shield.

Thank you Lee for your recommendations and help. It was probably the most miserable ride I have ever had...left in 30° temps with rain...then cleared...for all of 30 mins....then pouring..thunderstorms, tornado warnings...2 bad small town diners, 3 crappy gas stations. But I tell you what...there is beautiful land in Iowa and Missouri. I decided to get of the main highways because of the crazy wind burst and with 1/2 a windshield...well....I’m not quite sure if the route I took, just a little east and then a lot south, but there is some amazing rolling hills and farmland. So my journey started from the hotel in Des Moines at 8am and ended a little before 10pm in Memphis. Long day...and I really appreciate your help and it was a pleasure to finally meet you sir!
