2009 RT has intermittent cruise control failure.

My 2009 has developed an annoying cruise control failure. Have had the bike for 7 years and put on 40k miles without failure. Now when the temp is below 70f, cruise refuses to engage (no 'set" light). If it should engage after multiple attempts (rare under 70F), it usually turns off after 5-10 seconds. I've run the BMW diagnostic 10 step check out (set light works on/off when engage button engaged, front /rear brake as well, only the rolling of rear tire does not cause the on/off of "set" light-#10 on the diagnostics). Any ideas??
Thanks in advance.........GK.

Last trip had a problem with my CC on my 07RT. I found that messing with the clutch lever seemed to be connected to the problem so at the next service asked the tech to clean and re-position the micro switch there and it has been fine since.

I had intermittent cruise failure on my 2010 a couple years ago attributed to the switch failure. It was replaced under a campaign and has been fine since. By the way the switch cluster is not repairable.

I would check the wiring from the speed sensor on the rear drive to see if the wire has been damaged by a too tight wire tie. This has been an issue in the past. Might want to pull the sensor and clean the tip. I heave seen them build up debris on the end. If you have access to a GS 911 you could check for stored error codes. Control switch issues are on the 2010 and up models.

Intermittent cruise control

Foot not near the pedal. Cruise worked fine today, but it was 74F+. Will look into the rear wheel sensor/line condition. Thanks for the insight.
FYI; Red light on control module always lit when turned on (whether cruise works or not).

Had this problem with my previous bike a 07 1200RT. BMW said the cause was dampness in switch assembly contacts and it needed replacing. A strip down might do the job. As I rarely used the cruise control, I did nothing about it and lived with it until I sold the bike

Check if you can start the bike in first gear with the clutch pulled in.
If the bike doesn't start but starts in neutral, It is caused by the micro switch activated by the clutch lever.

When the Bike detects a fault in this micro switch, it disables the cruise control. (The red light on the switch assembly still turns on but the "SET" doesn't appear on the display)

Mine has started doing it on and off last year, I cleaned it with contact cleaner and it worked fine after.
The problem reapeared yesterday. I will try to clean it again. If that doesn't work, I'll put a new one.
