Bought the bike and didn't get a key. What do I do now? Can a dealership search the VIN and come up with a cut key? Please share your knowledge with me.

Yep - I've had my dealer get me another key. The generally require that you bring in your title to prove that you actually own the bike.

One issue that arises with BMW keys is that many US lockshops refuse to cut steel keys. Some will, many won't.

For classic K bikes there is an available brass key blank that most any good lock shop will have or can get. It is: Taylor B69K.

Now back to your regular programming.

One of the dealers I've used over the years would enter the key number inside the Owner's Manual (part of the packet) prior to delivery. Lose a key, tell a dealer the number, and they'd get it.
