Paul & I make sure we are prepared well ahead of time, so no problems here. If you don't underpin the house, you may be in trouble .redneck house.jpg

We were 13 this morning, last time this cold was seven years ago. Rare here for sure and the slick icy patches have gotten our attention a few times on the stairs and decks . Didn't even try to leave property with iced over hill just outside the gate.
We missed the major ice issues Houston and San Antonio dealt with from non believing expert drivers.

We had another snap last week and my remote outhouse heater decided to quit overnight...no underpinning insulation because who needs that the other 362 days...result was a shattered pressure assisted toilet bowl. Always shut water off to that side of property...just didn't plan on two days under freezing and a busted heater.

    supposed to be 80 Saturday

A few years ago we had three straight days with the highs in single digits or low teens. It became impossible to buy any 1/2" or 3/4" pipe fitting within 200 miles. Luckily I had a box full of stuff left over from my bunkhouse bathroom project. When it is 53 miles to the hardware store a person is inclined to buy a few extra things. It helped me with one broken pipe and helped out a couple of neighbors too.

Been a little foggy during the morning commutes with temps in the mid/upper 40's, but afternoon rides home have been nice -- low/mid 60's for the last couple days.

Maybe the temperature in the shop?

I keep my shop at 50* except when I am there working.

That weather station display sits in the all wall consuming window of our bedroom and was behind a curtain all night. It was cold for my comfort level...maybe 63 when she opened the curtains. I had my blanket cranked up

With no central heat, we heat the rooms we are in and play the thermostat game with each other all day

Wow; that's got to be tough when you're not used to it, and with no central heating. We hit 47 F today.

I have a Kerosun heater in the shop...but I couldn't find a real reason to be out there. It's insulated, but a lot of square footage to get it toasty on really cold days.

The cold you can layer up for, the ice on everything for days is annoying for us and locks us down
H thinks I will get up and moving at cooler temps in the house...I turn into a bear and hide and hibernate...or try
I got enough cold outdoors playing lineman and quit complaining(as much) after seeing what my northern brothers dealt with in winter on a regular basis.

I have plumbing in the shop so I must keep it heated.
