RT headlight protector....good-by Cee Bailey, hello ?

Now that we can no longer obtain Cee Bailey headlight protector, is the aeroflow the only quality cover available that you would recommend for the RT ?

I believe so. Just bought one for my RT. I have to say it looks like good quality. Had to rip off the “Aeroflow” sticker though.
Haven’t put it on due to the temps

Aeroflow

Aeroflow has been supporting the sport-touring market for a long time. Sadly, they haven't attended the national rally in many years.

According to its website, Aeroflow now offers headlight protectors for 2014-2018 R1200RTs. It costs $55 more than the cover for earlier RTs.

Aeroflow charges $144.95 for its 2014-2017 RT headlight protector. Cee Bailey charged $90 for its 2014-2017 HLG. But if you want a headlight protector, which is a good idea, Aeroflow may now be the only source. Even at its price it is a lot better than a broken headlight.

Just not sure about the 2 piece design? Seems like more space for bugs to get through.

There are some other on Ebay but have not heard any experience with them. They are sure a lot cheaper.

I got one about a month ago - easy install and high quality. I remember the Cee Bailey $90 ones too. Should have moved faster.

Cee Bailey

I have a new in the box Cee Bailey for 2014 and up R1200RT that I will sell for $60.00 plus shipping. Let me know?

A 18" X 24" piece of 3M film cost 31 dollars on Amazon.

NEVER have had any glass or plastic lens break on a motorcycle or a car in 45 years of having a drivers licenses.

Agree on the breakage issue for sure. Never has one break on any car or bike. BUT ... for me the headlight guard keeps all the crap off the headlight lens. Bugs, stones and such so that the front of my bike is easier to clean and my actual lens stays in better shape. Some folks are not as fussy about that stuff than others. So it is protecting the headlight "finish" more than protecting it from a actual breakage. I am sure the 3M film would do about the same so the headlight guard is simply just a preference for folks.

.

I added 3M film to the top of our saddle bag tops. This film feels way too thin to protect the headlight lens from a rock strike.

On our K1200RS bikes I used a thick flexible film. At the time it was sold in two thicknesses. Don't remember which thickness I used.
Aerostich is one place to buy it.

Edit:
Looks like 3M does sell a film for headlights as mentioned above, but it's only 3ml thick.

I went with 3m file, it came in kit from http://thetankslapper.biz/ , it's worked great for over 3 years on my WetHead RT. I had a cover on my Oilhead RT but I never did like taking if off to clean my rag always got caught by the Velcro tabs.
