radar/laser detectors

Thanks for the pics - that looks like a good solution.

What LEDs did you use? Can you recommend a part number/source?

I have my Max 360 wired directly and did not use the 12V outlet or smartcord.

I think that, when riding season starts again, I may use an old smartphone that I have to connect to the 360 and run the Escort Live app so that I can get the visual notifications a bit quicker along with the advantages of 'crowd sourcing' the radar/Cam traps.

I get the audio notifications via my Sena 20S but the added information from Escort Live may be useful.

LEDS came from amazon pack of 100 also had to wire in two cr2032 batterys all in series with original alert led leads, battery holder also came from amazon. If really interested i could send you some LEDS, as I had 98 left overs:)

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it but for now I'm gonna try this:

I Think that If I mount the control portion in my line of sight it may fit the bill.

Thanks,

That should work pretty good i would think. I just wanted to make mine so i couldn't possibly miss it again after getting a warning for speeding with it going off and i missed it. :)

i have one of those. the little light just isn't that bright, especially in daylight outdoors.

When I modified mine with green LEDS I researched and found out that the human eye picks up the color green best in bright daylight. But different colored LEDS require different voltages the VERY BRIGHT greens ones i used require higher voltage to turn on, can't remember exactly but somewheres around 3.5 volts. Thats why I power them with 2 c2032 watch batteries and just use the lower voltage from cord LED circuit to trigger watch batteries over 3.5 volts to turn on LEDS. Hope this all doesn't sound too complicated because it"s not that bad to do and works great

So, does the signal from the detector close some sort of a relay?

Wiring Diagram?

no relay, much simpler. All LEDS have a forward voltage spec ( This is the voltage required to turn on open or light up the LED) any voltage below that spec and there is no current flow. So the LEDS I used have a forward voltage of about 3.4 volts. cr2032 batteries put out 3.2 volts , so when hooked up to these batteries no current flow and no light , but with the cord alert LED circuit voltage ( can't remember exact voltage but some wheres around 1.5 volts) added into the circuit it adds enough voltage to open and light up LEDS. Hope this makes sense. I have some wiring Diagrams I made up along with notes with exact specs I used in making this . I"ll see if I can find it and make another post. Dan

...I've tried several options including the helmet LED thingie, and rigging up all sorts of warning lights for my RD's.
The Marc Parnes Visual Alert is the only one that really gets my attention.
Just from my experience...

I checked with Marc and he's never done one for the Max 360 but figured he could make it work but the total cost would be $90-$100, just looking for a lower cost solution.

Radar Detectors

I have been a Bel and Escort person for years. I run the 9500ix and the Sti Magnum (non detectable VA and Canada). Neither have ever let me down, and I really am creative with the speed limit numbers. The whole arrow thing from Valentine never made sense to me, an alert is an alert, so I take all serious. Plus the price did not make up the minimal performance differences.

What I liked about Bel, now Escort is that they service and refurb (really affordable), versus replacing. I am trying the Escort Redline Ex for a trial and then will try for the first time the Uniden R3. The reviews have been very, very good on the R3, so it may be worth following. I mount a dash on all my bikes and mount the units via industrial snap velcro to give the units secure mounting and antennas full exposure. I made covers and camouflage to hide them in hostile areas and to prevent them from being seen or being lifted off bike. A small stuffed animal works well or extra pair of summer gloves. I find the real trick for anytime I want to push the numbers, is never be the first in a pack or all alone on a road and pushing it. I have never seen a right lane person ever pulled over for being speed creative and I stay out of the left lane and let the left lane hoggers be the fodder for the LEO. I love to watch the left laners bump up their speed when I move around them in the right lane. Never fails they always speed up and I will purposely nudge them 10 mph higher than they were traveling and then let off throttle when I see cop in middle, making them look like they are flying. The face reaction is priceless. Safe riding and try a couple units before deciding.
