Beltronics RX65. It's served me well between bike and car for three years now. The display color choices are red or blue; I found the latter to be less of a distraction especially at night. It's not waterproof, but that's what a good ziplock sandwich bag and a zip tie is for!

    Escort Max 360

I have the notifications transmitted via Bluetooth to my Sena 20S. When Escort live is connected it's a pretty good system and, in my opinion, has better features than anything on the market - the sucker is BIG though.

Ski, when you're listening to music or talking to someone on your Sena, what happens when your radar detector starts broadcasting? Will it immediately cut in (take priority) over everything else? Although I have a Sena, I've been using a single earbud hooked to my RX65 for alerts. Kinda primitive with all this BT technology!

I use a V1 through a Sena SR10 to my Sena 20S. I get instant alerts and the sound is overlaid over the intercom without interrupting (on my SMH-10, it would interrupt the intercom). Works great. I had a Legal Speeding HARD before this which didn't work as well (too bright at night, too much lag).

I have a Escort Max in my truck - it is a great detector but it is pretty fragile. The V1 is a better bet for on the bike, just remember to turn on the Junk K filter setting or it never shuts up.

It's a pain in the A$$ but ,if you set up the priorities correctly the Radar Detector WILL override in any other input. I have the NavV, BMW sound system, and my phone set up and all are working great.

I have a V1 connected via their remote audio adapter to a Sena SM10 (iPod audio also goes into the SM10). Sena 20S is connected via Bluetooth to the SM10. Any audio alert from the V1 automatically mutes the iPod audio. Works very well.

    Ahhhh. Bummer.

Sure wish they would make BT native to the V1. hate all the adaptors and extra wiring.

    Radar Detector

I have a BEL Pro300 and an Escort 8500. I have put them side by side and they are identical. I use them in commercial trucks, automobiles 🚗 and motorcycles and they pick out the shooters.

One thing I would like to know is on the Escort 8500 if anyone has used the earphone plug to hook up a speaker? I didn't want to buy a small speaker and not have the power to power it.

I plugged a pair of earbuds into my Escort 8500, but couldn't hear the audio over the windblast. This was on an R1150RS.

I have an Escort 8500 which I leave on Volts. The alert is a Radar Screamer on the dash. Most radar hits have been instant on but I do like knowing if we've been dinged. Ding! Dang!

    Great advice.

I asked a Sergeant in the Washington State Patrol about laser detectors. He got a big smile and said they let you be the second person to know you're getting a ticket.

I use a detector and know it has prevented me from getting a performance award a half dozen times or more. Radar/laser encounters are much less common in my part of the world than they are in the east. Only once have I ever been lased and that time it helped me avoid a citation. I was in Nebraska doing 70-72 in a 60 MPH zone on rural divided highway. The laser warning went off and I immediately saw an oncoming trooper turn on his lights and start across the median. I soon met the most professional and courteous LEO I can ever recall encountering. Turns out I was caught by an aircraft and he had used his laser to confirm my speed and he got me several MPH under the aircraft reading. I had in fact decelerated as we approached a built-up area, but had he not lased me he would have written a ticket (justly deserved) based on the aircraft’s measurement, but he gave me a warning It’s been 32 years since I had a speeding ticket and I credit using a detector as a significant contributing reason. It also helps having silver hair, providing all the required documentation and being courteous to the LEO.

'I use them in commercial trucks'

Don't get caught doing that in South Carolina. At a minimum, you'll never see the detector again.

With commercial trucks, it is a federal (DOT) rule...

49 CFR 392.71 Radar detectors; use and/or possession.

    (a) No driver shall use a radar detector in a commercial motor vehicle, or operate a commercial motor vehicle that is equipped with or contains any radar detector.

    (b) No motor carrier shall require or permit a driver to violate paragraph (a) of this section.
