radar/laser detectors

I use a V1 through a Sena SR10 to my Sena 20S. I get instant alerts and the sound is overlaid over the intercom without interrupting (on my SMH-10, it would interrupt the intercom). Works great. I had a Legal Speeding HARD before this which didn't work as well (too bright at night, too much lag).

how does the V1 connect to sena? direct BT or to phone running V1 software?

I have a V1 connected via their remote audio adapter to a Sena SM10 (iPod audio also goes into the SM10). Sena 20S is connected via Bluetooth to the SM10. Any audio alert from the V1 automatically mutes the iPod audio. Works very well.

Ahhhh. Bummer.

Sure wish they would make BT native to the V1. hate all the adaptors and extra wiring.

Radar Detector

I have a BEL Pro300 and an Escort 8500. I have put them side by side and they are identical. I use them in commercial trucks, automobiles đźš— and motorcycles and they pick out the shooters.

One thing I would like to know is on the Escort 8500 if anyone has used the earphone plug to hook up a speaker? I didn't want to buy a small speaker and not have the power to power it.

I plugged a pair of earbuds into my Escort 8500, but couldn't hear the audio over the windblast. This was on an R1150RS.

I have an Escort 8500 which I leave on Volts. The alert is a Radar Screamer on the dash. Most radar hits have been instant on but I do like knowing if we've been dinged. Ding! Dang! :dance

either slow down so you don't need one....or get a badge, so you don't need one.

Great advice.

I asked a Sergeant in the Washington State Patrol about laser detectors. He got a big smile and said they let you be the second person to know you're getting a ticket.

I use a detector and know it has prevented me from getting a performance award a half dozen times or more. Radar/laser encounters are much less common in my part of the world than they are in the east. Only once have I ever been lased and that time it helped me avoid a citation. I was in Nebraska doing 70-72 in a 60 MPH zone on rural divided highway. The laser warning went off and I immediately saw an oncoming trooper turn on his lights and start across the median. I soon met the most professional and courteous LEO I can ever recall encountering. Turns out I was caught by an aircraft and he had used his laser to confirm my speed and he got me several MPH under the aircraft reading. I had in fact decelerated as we approached a built-up area, but had he not lased me he would have written a ticket (justly deserved) based on the aircraft’s measurement, but he gave me a warning It’s been 32 years since I had a speeding ticket and I credit using a detector as a significant contributing reason. It also helps having silver hair, providing all the required documentation and being courteous to the LEO.

'I use them in commercial trucks'

Don't get caught doing that in South Carolina. At a minimum, you'll never see the detector again.

With commercial trucks, it is a federal (DOT) rule...

49 CFR 392.71 Radar detectors; use and/or possession.

(a) No driver shall use a radar detector in a commercial motor vehicle, or operate a commercial motor vehicle that is equipped with or contains any radar detector.

(b) No motor carrier shall require or permit a driver to violate paragraph (a) of this section.

I have a V1 and it is great...... but, not water proof and a bit cumbersome to get it Bluetooth compatible or use a remote alert lite. I also have an Adaptive. Designed for motorcycles, waterproof, comes with remote alert lite, has Bluetooth system available from Adaptive and so far has been good enough. I run the V1 on one bike and the Adaptive on another. Like them both.

valentine 1. It will generally outperform the others. If not, it will be improved in the next update. Valentine is the only one who will upgrade the unit for you as improvements are made.

I too have a V1 and an Adaptiv. The V1 is on my bike(s) and the Adaptiv is on the shelf. My reason is simple. I do not use headphones or ear buds or whatever. I can hear the V1 at any speed I ride without the need for wires or blueteeth or whatever. I cannot hear the Adaptive and don't want to need to be looking for lights or such when focusing 12 to 20 seconds down the road.

Lots of riders have their detectors and music and telephones all fed to their helmets in which case my opinion doesn't matter one whit. But I don't, so I care about hearing the detector even with ear plugs, at 80 mph.

Interesting. I don't use any Bluetooth connections either, except for the Sena speakers in my helmet for two way comms with Annie. The speakers do not interfer with my hearing other then when receiving a transmission and we do not chat much while underway. I do wear ear plugs and I cannot hear either detector at speeds much above 40-45 MPH. Had my hearing checked a few times the past few years and am told my hearing is better than average for a man my age. Surprising since I spent so many years turning our tax dollars into very loud noises and smoke. With each detector I have a remote LED alert lite that is in my peripheral field of vision and I notice it while looking down the road. At nite I can move the lite down low so it is not so bright or I just turn the detector off.

I have the notifications transmitted via Bluetooth to my Sena 20S. When Escort live is connected it's a pretty good system and, in my opinion, has better features than anything on the market - the sucker is BIG though.

I use max 360 also. I installed a 12 volt outlet on dash above navigator and I modified the smart cord with 2 super bright green LEDs. when i get an alert can't miss the LEDs pointed right at my face, saved my butt sooooo many times!!!!

How'd you mount the LEDs?

Thanks for the pics - that looks like a good solution.

What LEDs did you use? Can you recommend a part number/source?

I have my Max 360 wired directly and did not use the 12V outlet or smartcord.

I think that, when riding season starts again, I may use an old smartphone that I have to connect to the 360 and run the Escort Live app so that I can get the visual notifications a bit quicker along with the advantages of 'crowd sourcing' the radar/Cam traps.

I get the audio notifications via my Sena 20S but the added information from Escort Live may be useful.

I wear earplugs and never listen to music with earbuds, a com system, or anything else. Just my preference of course.
So I rely on a visual alert, in fact the Marc Parnes Visual Alert. It's all mounted right below eye level on my GS, atop the Nav VI. Perfect.
I have my V1 mounted on a Ram mount (for now) and can glance at the arrow indicator if I want to know the direction the signal is coming from.
This V1 is so old the sound doesn't even work anyway...good thing, I find the aural warnings distracting, annoying and unnecessary.
