not charging

put brushes in my 86 R80 now it is not charging.at 11,9 volts charging light stays on. everything went back together the way it was.I did disconnected the ground cable before started work.and guesses.
 
Which type of brushes? The ones to solder on or the ones that have a mounting ring crimped on?

Are you sure? Did you take a picture of the wiring before you started your work?

Darryl Cainey: Are the brushes contacting the slip rings on the rotor under spring pressure?

If the charge light is ON when you turn the key but before you start it, then the brushes have to be touching the slip rings. Please clarify that.

Buy yourself a copy of Classic Boxer Charging. Not much $ and invaluable source for Airhead charging system info and testing and troubleshooting.

found what the problem was one of the insulating washers was in the wrong place. learn something everyday.want the everyone for their help.
