R90s ignition and light switch

I'm helping a buddy with his '75 R90s switchgear issues.

The ignition switch is 3 position (off and 2 others).

The lettering is worn off all the switches (250,000 miles on the bike).

I know the starter button, turn signal switch and kill switch is on the right, and the horn, high/low beam/flasher is on the left. But the yellow selector appears to have three positions for the headlight?

How does that work in conjunction with the ignition switch? Does the ignition switch activate the lights or it done through the handlebar switch?

Sorry, this is totally different than my '74 S, which has a five position switch and no headlight relay.

thanks,

According to the owners manual for the /6, the left 3-position switch is 1) up, all lights off, 2) middle, parking light, and 3) down, all lights on. Given that, it would indicate that ignition doesn't activate the lights but rather the rider does. My /7 has no such light switch on the left grip. Parking lights for my /7 are activated by not turning the key to the full off position, but one less...I can then remove the key and the parking lights stay on.

My /6 three position switch with the yellow switch paddle works just as Kurt says. That is a new switch.

My 76 90S,Switch parallel off, 1 down parking, stays on with ignition off, all the way down headlight on ignition must be on. Headlight relay inside the headlight bucket ignition switch side. It seems the location of the headlight switch and kill switch on the other bar are located so you can turn them on and off with a tank bag at full lock. Ask me how I know.

Thanks for the information.

So the ignition switch must be full on and then the light switch on the handlebar activates the lights?

it appears there are three positions for the yellow light switch. What are they for? On?, Off?, etc?

I'm pretty sure all the way up is OFF. Middle is PARK (a lower wattage headlight bulb). All the way down is ON. I never use the middle position. I turn the switch OFF to start the bike and then flip it to ON while I am riding.
