What Model Year Were Pre Ordered K1600GTL & GT

I pre ordered my K1600GTL (#600) in Jan. 2011. It was built on 6/2011 delivered on 7/2011 but the model year is 2012. The title states 2012 model. Why do I see K1600 s for sale advertised as 2011. Was there any models released early? Is there a way to tell by the VIN what model year the bike is?

The decoders principally tell you when the vehicle was built...he already knows that. Strange that a bike built in 6/2011 is titled as a 2012. Typically the 2012 models wouldn't have been available until after the August break in 2011.

Thanks. I have not used the site for awhile and thought it also gave the model year.

That's true in most cases, but sometimes a new model like the K1600 will be released early summer and called the next year model.
Seems like the first R1200RSs were built in early to mid 2015 and were called 2016 models.

Basically all K1600 that were built in 2011 are consider 2012 models. My title and registration also confirm this. I Just don't know why some would advertise there 2012 model for sale and call it a 2011. Just checked the VIN on my 2010 Ford F150 and it had a build date of 11/2009. But if I were to sell it I would call it a 2010 model.

The first R1100RS bikes were built in March of 1993 and sold as early as May of 1993 as 1994 models. Voni's was built in March, 1993.
