Best route to SLC 70 or 80?

I'm on my way to rally from MA via a stop in NC. I stopped for the night in Coumbia MO . I was gonna take 70 as it looked good going through the CO Rockies but so far 70 is the pits
Any suggestions out there?

I drive from Kansas City through Salt Lake City once a year, and frankly both routes blow. Of the two, I generally go with I 80 though. Not much of an improvement really, but some.
