2006 RT Transmission Fluid Warning Light?

I check the fluids and air pressure on my 2006 RT regularly, but it is such a hassle to take the tupperware off to check the transmission oil level--and I'm not a mechanic. I'm trying to decipher my owners manual. Is there a warning light on the dash that comes on if the transmission oil is low?
 
No there isn't. Remove the tupperware (you'll have to do it sooner or later) and check the fluid.
 
Unless you see a leak - it's unlikely the fluid level has changed since the last time the fluid was changed. Transmission fluid isn't consumed while riding the bike. Look the bike over carefully. If there are dribbles - smell them. Transmission fluid has a strong sulphur smell.

As DB said above, unless you have a bad seal, you won't use any transmission oil between routine maintenance. I've never added gear oil between my service intervals, ever.


He's also correct, gear oil smells totally different than motor oil. First time you change the transmission oil you'll smell what we mean.

Yes, and that smell is artificially added to discourage you from putting this oil in your motor.

Also artificial are the viscosity numbers for gear oil ... again to discourage you from putting it in your motor.

Sort of.......Many vehicles have a transmission temperature gauge or warning indicator. Low fluid levels along with operating the transmission in the wrong gear or lack of service interval can result in the gauge or indicator to trip. :dunno
