    Cool 2017 Rally camping questions...

Hello Rally chairs/members; I have a few questions concerning the 2017 SLC Fair Park site:

    1) Comparing the MOA map from the June/2017 MOA News to the actual real-world view of Google Earth, it appears most of the camping areas are 50/50 dirt/grass? The only actual camping areas with trees of any sort, are in the first camping area: (near vendor building 4), Is this correct?

    2) The area behind building 3 (again a vendor building), looks to be the only area on the entire Fair grounds site that has what could be described as a "grove" of trees, this would perhaps be a good site for camping? Is camping going to allowed in this area?

    3) Also, I was wondering; building #45, the arena where the closing ceremonies will be held, according to the State Fair website has setting capacity for 3,600 people? The June MOA news states the MOA expects 5,000-6,000 people? Maybe this is the "new" math but something doesn't seem to add up? Of course all of the 3,600 seats are in the open, not covered in any way, is this correct?

That you in advance for clarifying some of these issues I am curious about!

PS: Before anyone feels a need to spank me, I have been a MOA member for 37 years, (my number is 19,958) and I have been to about half of the national rally's in that time, (minus a 10 year hiatus from motorcycling), so I'm going to Salt Lake, just want to be able to have a game plan etc!

    Regards: Chuck

I'm gonna add a question from a national rally nOOb.
Is the cost of camping included in the $55 rally fee?

    Rally FAQs here:

    http://www.bmwmoa.org/page/rallyfaq

says that your rally fee includes individual first-come-first-served tent camping. Is that what you were wondering about?

    Thanks.

Looks like the OP still has some questions.

As a nOOb - do the camp spots typically fill up before Thursday morning?

A few weeks ago, Greg Feeler produced a Virtual Tour of the site for Volunteer Chairs and Co-chairs. I gleaned some impressions from that tour and have responded to your questions based on those impressions. I have not visited the site and don't guarantee the accuracy of my responses.

The only actual camping areas with trees of any sort, are in the first camping area: (near vendor building 4), Is this correct? I think you got this correct.

    2) The area behind building 3 (again a vendor building), looks to be the only area on the entire Fair grounds site that has what could be described as a "grove" of trees, this would perhaps be a good site for camping? Is camping going to allowed in this area? Again, you have this pretty well correct. It will be available for camping, until it fills up. As a volunteer, I will have to show up early, so I hope to have a spot there.

Of course all of the 3,600 seats are in the open, not covered in any way, is this correct? The stadium is being completely rebuilt. We will probably be the first big group to use it. The photos I saw showed substantial progress, but it was not finished. I understand it will be finished by the end of June.

That you in advance for clarifying some of these issues I am curious about!

Only my second,
but a volunteer for both. Something I highly recommend.

I wouldn't think so, however, as time goes by, the more primo sites will be gone. But it depends on what you're looking for in terms of camping - near food/showers, quiet zone, easy in/out, etc.

Thanks Ed; your comments are much appreciated and very helpful! Yeah, I usually always volunteer at every Rally (National and local) that I attend. I'll be working the Vintage/Bike Show in SLC, stop by and check it out!
PS: I'll be there early too, so don't take all those good spots behind building #3!
