    AMA Vintage Days

Rather than going to the MOA rally or the RA, I'm thinking of going to the AMA Vintage days in Lexington, OH. Any body ever been, is it good, what can I expect. camping?

Haven't been in 3 yrs...[personal decision] but....yes it was great when I did go for 20+ years. What to expect? you will see at least one of everything concerning motorcycles, 30+ acre swap meet, vintage racing, featured marque [not sure what it is this year]....and a parking lot show like few others.

There is camping. Although I never camped there...everyone I have ever heard talk about it says it's fine. A loudmouth, etc.on occasion but you'll find that damn near everywhere. Good food at the track...[well OK good 'track food'] Plenty of really GOOD food in town. About 7 miles from the track.

Good, maybe better??? Camping at the Clearfork reservoir . Did camp there a time or two, they had a good camp store & reasonable rates. about 6 miles from the track.

There are motels, but some are well...you know Over at I-71 & ST/RT 97 there are some nicer ones and again some good food, but it is sometimes 'family-city' . If you're considering a motel?....call now...they fill up fast.

I really recommend Buck's bar in Lexington on Sat/night. Bands are loud...but I'm old...food is good, drinks as well....& the girls are pretty..

The area itself is farm country, but very nice just for general riding around [if ya have the time & are interested]

Thanks. That's good info. Probably wander around for about 10-14 days.

Well in that case.....wander over to Mohican State Park I'm thinking you'll like it...And check to see if Bellville is having their annual car show...it is a good one, and BTW there are motels over that way [bout 15miles] ..And there is a really nice BMW / Moto-Guzzi dealer in Wooster, about 40 miles from the track.

If you plan to "wander about" there is excellent riding east and southeast of the Vintage Days site.

Consider going to see "Big Muskie" coal mining bucket on route 78 southeast of Zanesville, Ohio.

Or if you're an old movie fan visit the "Clark Gable Foundation" in Cadiz, Ohio...that's on the way to Wheeling, WV.

If you're a baseball fan, Cy Young is buried in Peoli, Ohio. I used to live in Newcomerstown Ohio and several elderly members of the Rotary Club knew Cy personally. Cy used to enjoy adult beverages at the Newcomerstown Elks Lodge.

All of these sites have enjoyable twisty hilly 2 lane paved roads for riding. The rides to the sites are more interesting to me than the attraction.

Holmes County, just east of the race track, is home to a large Amish population. The hospital in Millersburg has places to park the buggy and tie up the horse.

Finally, Mathias BMW is located south of New Philadelphia, Ohio. An excellent dealer I have done business with for more than 20 years.

I've had season passes up at MidOhio for 27 years. Great facility.
    Vintage bike weekend my favorite.
I'll be camping all 3 days
Agree with Ron and George's comments. pretty accurate.
They have a quiet camping area at the track, but is adjacent to rest of camp area so I am not sure much quieter. Certainly better than Superbike weekends in the past.
Clear fork a good alternate as well as Mohican.

Lots to see during the weekend so you may not be able to see it all.
Flat track race is up in Ashland on Friday PM about 30 miles away. Always enjoy that.
They have an organized ride up to that if you want (AMA).
Vintage Trials, Motocross, Road racing at track with various classes. Bike show, auction, info seminars and swap meet all good.

    Have a good trip!

Forgot to mention St/RT 555 , it runs N/S from Zanesville to Little Hocking. It is about a 60 mile ride that {IMO} rivals US 129 [the dragon] It is about 60 miles east of Lexington, and there are plenty of places to find a bed & or a meal in that area.

Some of the best roads in the country are in S.E. Ohio. Many forums will give more details but you owe it to yourself to check out the Triple Nickel (555) and pretty much any two laner south of Interstate 76 and east of Interstate 77.

    Some info here.

The Flat Track races are definitely one of my favorite events at Vintage. Yes they are up in Ashland but contrary to a previous post, they are now Saturday Night and not Friday. I just read the schedule and there seems to be more music now. As the racing has dwindled for various reasons, perhaps they are trying to make it more of a festival weekend.

Marque of the Year is Kawasaki. Expect to see lots of vintage Japanese Bikes. There will be some demo rides available though right now the only one of interest appears to be KTM. Others are small imported makes. Flea market is great even just for browsing. Catch some of the vintage trials, very cool. Very easy to have fun and make new friends.

Do Not bring your dog ! I asked before I bought tickets and was told yes as long as the dog is on a leash . My wife and our cocker spaniel were escorted out with no refunds . I have not been back .
