I've got the 49L box on my '16 RT and it makes it quite a chore for my passenger to get aboard. Any suggestions as to backrest options, including smaller box, if it would be significantly lower. We do mainly local rides so box isn't a must. But the stress of getting on and off is no fun. Is there a backrest that mounts to the RT rack?

Back-up, back rest. For the driver and passenger? I see they make them for the RT.

I don't see this backrest listed for the RT but you could contact the vendor and ask.
