Anyone know why the admin is MIA on S1000XRforum.com?

No, but he has been gone for so long that someone on ADV went and started a new forum because no one could join that one. There were about 10 of us waiting over a month. There are not a lot of members yet but... it's only a week old. http://s1000xroa.com/forum/index.php

Thanks for this link - http://s1000xroa.com/forum/index.php - just signed up and am happy there is a 'local' XR forum.

    Shouldn't this thread have sub-threads?

I guess only general random questions can be asked here.

    Taking the S1000XR off road?

Ok, I know it is not really an Adventure bike, even though classed as one by BMW. What have people been doing with it though? Any off roading at all? It has good clearance and wide handlebars, but after that, oh boy, I'd hate to drop the thing. The plastic on it would shatter to pieces. And there is no underbelly guard (like on a Multistrada).

Just curious what people think. I've found myself on some trails, and very rough black top tracks, and had no problems. But I wouldn't go "off road" riding on it intentionally.
