Soul or tech, new vs old

Well too be honest I don't recall what model bmw they had had in their garage presently though the lady told the bmw rep at Daytona bmw that the new r1200rs had the tech though not those soul of their current older bmw. Would guess they had a older boxer, pre water cooled but uncertain.

At any rate I thought it an interesting comment. Who knew, I own an opposed twin with soul. Well ok, actually I knew that since my first bike, a 71 r75/5.

And yes, the new k1600 nagger looked nice. Rep said it was 1 of 3 they built so far.

No new car or bike comes with soul. It develops over time as a result of shared experience. Some develop it quickly, some never have any. No one else will perceive the same soul that you perceive in a bike.

The R12100RS has soul all right. Take one for a gallop and see!

Soul on new Bikes?

If someone doesn't think the new wetheads don't have as much souls the old bikes, they need to twist the loud handle little more. My GSW is the first bike that really stirred my soul, since I sold my 490 Maico

I can understand why the women said the bike had no soul compared to the older beemer, as the RS does seem to lack a bit of character when you first get on it. I do however agree with Ikraus in that the soul of the bike (or car for that matter), or the character of it will develop over time. I have the new RS and feel that it is everything I wanted my R1100S to be, though the 1100 had tons of character and a strong following by the time I bought one. I think these new bikes will be the same way as anything new will become over time. The RS doesn't seem to be a huge seller in the states right now, which may in the long run help it develop a strong following in the same way that some other low production bikes have become (R1200S wasn't a huge seller when new, but people sure do love the thing now).

Just like a person, the soul will develop over time the more you ride it and right now I can't wait for winter to end so I can start riding again!

I've had lots of BMW's since 1971 and they all had "soul". My 2016 RT has it as my '11 did. You ride these machines hard day after day on a long trip, heavily loaded, flogging it across the burning deserts and carving mountain passes, all with the wife asleep (sometimes) on the pillion seat. You develop a bond with them and trust.

Nicely put Larry. Don't not recall having ridden the new RS model yet. Trying to stay away from the 2017 line for the moment...trying to get other bills paid off presently though certain I will do a test ride anyway on the GS, RS and RT. And then figure I will then consider my old 05 R1200RT as if it is akin to the first model iPhone that came out.

Would though say something like an old /5 or any airhead, will have a character similar to a soul that is different then what the new water heads offer. Not to say the new ones are bad, and they will have their own 'soul' though one molded from a technical perspective; the water cooling, throttle by wire and such.

Don't know, could a twin ever become a goldwing...so refined one wonders if there is an engine under them? I would offer not and that is good. As there must be, I feel, always a mechanical connection between the motorcycle and the rider. Ok, enough external thinking on my part and others can disagree.

Soul is a wonderful undefined term that can be dropped into most any conversation to dismiss or elevate the perceived value of most any product / piece of work. The terms "art", "pornography" or "patriotic" are similar.

I had 2 LC R1200s, a '14RT and a '15 GS.
Sold them.
I thought they felt sorta like Japanese bikes. But more costly, and for me, with more annoyances.
I prefer my Camheads.
It's not that the performance is bad.. they just feel and sound cheap.

As for the Bagger.
I hear they have an option called DFNR.
It stands for Dynamic Friday Night Rumble.
At speeds less than 10mph a soundtrack of a large displacement V-twin at idle engages and plays through an underbody sound system with a subwoofer.
If you want enhanced DFNR..EDFNR
The soundtrack mimics your throttle position,.. so you can rev it at stop lights..
