Coolant weephole leak question

My 15 GSA all of a sudden quit leaking at around 20K :dunno:thumb
I guess it is now starting to get broken-in.

When I first became aware of this issue I monitored my bike and because there was virtually no coolant lose just weeping, I made the decision to wait until close to the end of my warranty period to see if it disappeared as part of the break-in process. Glad to hear yours has come around, trust mine and most others will also.

I have a 2014 RTW purchased in the fall of 2014. Weep hole weep started right after I got home with it, but stopped within 1000 miles and hasn't happened since.

Just curious as to why you would have had the coolant replaced. Replacing coolant is not even mentioned in the maintenance schedules. Did a dealer do this? At the one-year mark, the brake fluid is to be flushed (F/R), but there's nothing about coolant. Maybe I misunderstood your post. Did you mean that they topped off the coolant in the overflow tank, or was the coolant drained completely from the bike, and replaced with fresh coolant?

Pretty sure the coolant should be changed every 2 years on any bike.

My 16 RT engine had a blue trail at 200 mi that I wiped off. It developed several more blue trails by the 600 mi service and the SM recommended swapping out the pump so I said ok. 2500 miles later not a drop. SM said he keeps the pumps in stock, especially for K16s.

I have a 2015 GSW which I bought new in Fall 2015. It started weeping after about 100 miles, during initial break-in. I read a bunch of stuff on the internet and was a little freaked out. The dealer said to give the seal a while to set and it would likely stop. The coolant level only dropped slightly and I just rode it until the initial service around 700 miles, when the coolant was topped off. The weeping stopped sometime around then and definitely before I clocked 1000 miles, and has not returned. Even on a 2500 miles trip around the Great Lakes this past summer, including some very hot weather and periods of traffic jams, I had no issues. Glad I waited it out instead of rushing in for a new pump. Now have about 7000 miles on the bike and all is good. Hope this helps any new owners with similar worries.

Update for the weephole weep. After about a couple of thousand additional miles, the weeping has stopped coming down the side of the motor under the weephole. There is still some small amount of coolant in the weephole channel, but the only way to know is to put a cotton swab a couple of inches into the channel and when the cotton swab is removed, it has a small amount of the blue coolant on it. Is it normal to have a small amount of coolant accumulate in the weephole channel? Or, are the water pump seals still in the process of seating?

Just got back from the rally in SLC and my 2015 GS STARTED to leak at 15,000 miles. Leaked enough to empty recovery tank.
So, I thought back as to what was unusual about the trip at that point. Well how about 16 miles stuck out in the heat in the middle
of no where as 2 of the largest pieces of equipment I have ever seen were escorted by 4 Utah State troopers. No way to get around.
Anyway I monitored the temperature and it hit 220. Never saw it this high.

Around SLC got stuck in traffic in heat again. Temp went up to around 212 which I have seen many times. I had another leak.
My conclusion, the seal holds when you are cruising around in a "normal" range. When the motor gets hotter towards its upper limits
it will leak from excessive pressure.

Went to my dealer today who told me they will not replace under warranty until I bring the bike in basically puking up fluid at the time
so they can send a pix to the home office for approval. Manager mentioned the seals breaking in line. Really, @ 17,500 miles. Breaking in?

I am venting here (no pun intended). If I knew about this issue before purchase there never would have been a purchase. I cannot fathom
why i must now monitor how much fluid is leaking if I happen to ride under the wrong conditions. There are many L/C bikes in the world.
This is beyond what is acceptable.

BTW, I had the service manager show me where the weep hole is on a 2017. It is moved to a less visible site.
And, on an 800 they attached a hose so it puddles on the ground instaed of on the case.

BUT, I can get my front forks fixed right away.

I'm out.

My dealer said all I need to do is take pix which I did told him I will edit until I get back from SLC. Mine still weeping but seems less.

Weep hole after pump change

Not much of an improvement. 15D698BD-A4C0-43C4-910E-CB97AEDA15B8.jpg
My dealer asks me if this is more than one tablespoon. Not sure how I’m supposed to figure that out.

Mine still "spits" on occasion. Not sure what triggers it... heat, high RPM, etc. This reminds me I need to check the coolant level!

Mine was the same for the first 2000 to 3000 miles. At that time the dealer offered to replace the pump but the guy over on the BMWST site encouraged me to give it a bit of time and sure enough by the time I got back from Salt Lake Rally with 6500 miles on the clock it had stopped. I check it after every ride and have not seen it again. My dealer did say that when they have replaced the pump in the past it resolved the issue and they had not had to done it more than once on a bike. That probably does not help your situation. I would tell the dealer YES it is 1.3467 tablespoons :dunno
