I did not think my first request for help would be for a stuck gas cap. My new to me 1978 R100/7 motorcycles gas cap will not unscrew. It will turn counter clockwise but will only click. Any and all suggestions welcome. This was certainly anticlimactic as I was about to put some gas in to try to start to start it for the first time.

Very happy. The belt through the handle trick worked well. The gas cap is off so now I can do the modification/repair. Thanks againFuel cap
I had the same problem with my fuel cap on a 1978 r100rs. it was the cap with the BMW logo. Tried the belt release method but that didn't work. so decided to drill the fuel cap under the cap handle, through to the other surface inserted the end of a pop rivet into the hole engaging both drilled holes, hey presto, I was able to unscrew the fuel cap.
