    Hi from Kansas City MO

I've ridden smaller dirt bikes and scooters, have always wanted something bigger, and just picked up a 1998 R1100R SE with just over 6,200 miles on it. I had ridden an Electra Glide for 3 hours on I35 thru the Flint Hills. Adjusting nicely to the big(ger) bike ...

    Best regards,
    Ed

    Thanks for the welcome!

I've had mini bikes growing up. Used to rebuild Briggs & Stratton motors. Had a Yamaha MX 80 after that. My brother later had a Honda MT250 Elsinore which i rode into a pond one night (not on purpose). Lately I have a Honda PS250 Big Ruckus scooter, but the belts keep shredding. So it's sat in the garage for a couple of years.

I've always liked the looks of BMW bikes, with their shaft drive, and thought it would be neat to have an old classic, but a true classic would probably be too much work. Research seemed to indicate the 1100 series was pretty reliable. Opportunity came, and I found a nice low mileage R1100R (6,234) that I can do some of the maintenance on myself. Enjoying the bike so far, using it for daily commute to work and back. My wife has ridden on back a few times already, but she seems to think it needs a backrest or top case as the seat is pretty slippery. I'm thinking a good Russell Day-long dual would fix it ...

The only other big bike I've ridden was when my brother bought an Electra-Glide in Houston and we went down and picked it up. He rode it back most of the ways, but I did get to ride for about 3 hours on I-35 in northern OK and southern KS (flint hills).

Otherwise I enjoy the outdoors, play bass guitar a little, and enjoy a good cup of coffee

    Welcome to the site Ed.
If you need anything for your 1100, Engle Motors in Kansas City is a good shop.

Join the KC BMW MC Club

You should look up the Kansas City BMW Motorcycle Club.

    See: http://www.kcbmwmc.com/

The site seems a little out of date but that happens this time of year when folks are busy riding.

Welcome to the forum! I am pretty close to you. Two best things about riding in the KC area: (1) you are at the mid-point of the lower 48 and within riding distance of almost any kind of terrain you like; (2) you are in Engle's back yard and they are among the best BMW/Triumph dealerships in the US.
    Again welcome to the forum.
