Hi, I'm Rick, picked up a very nice (to me) K1100lt about 6 weeks ago. Spent the past 20 years on/off with a '79 CB750K which I sadly let go to move to southern Indiana. My wife and I are excited to be back on a bike and looking forward to adding to the 72,000 miles currently on our K...Hope to see and meet a few of you out on the road, ride safe and have fun (and sometimes do them together.)

Welcome Rick -

Good community and a good choice of your first BMW. The 'Brick' engine on that bike is famous for it's ease of maintenance...and the fact that it rarely needs it. I've owned two Brick K bikes in the past - Durable and smooth.

And yes they all smoke when you start them, and no, it's really not a problem.

Welcome ABOARD......You picked a great bike for your first BMW......MANY miles for you on these things so looking forward to seeing you down the road.......

Welcome to the Forum!

In the dim dark past I moved from a CB750 messaged into a sport tourer to my first BMW an airhead R100. More Hondas, ___ and BMWs since.

Enjoy the riding.
