Hi Guys
Thanks for letting me join the club/association. Its nice to find a group of like-thinking riders who greatly appreciate a good bike as well as all the things you can do with it.

I started riding motorcycles 3 years ago and my first bike was a KLR. It was a good starter bike for doing forestry roads and commuting around town, but this year, I upgraded to a F800GS. I know there are even better bikes than the 800, but I have to take time to evolve as a motorcycle rider.
My stimulus to upgrade to the 800 came last year, when I took a trip through the Kooteneys on the KLR. Two major issues with the KLR became quickly apparent. It was anemic when it came to passing large trucks (a big safety factor). Even worse, at high altitude, it became even more pathetic. I found this out on the Coquihala highway when at the summit, it bogged down to an embarrassing limp. If it was a horse, I would have put it down. As soon as I got home, I started shopping for a better bike. Consequently, this year, I moved up to the F800GS. There's no comparison and no going back. I'm feeling kind of spoiled with the big leap in power and performance.

In 2 weeks, I am taking a trip down the Oregon Coast. I expect this will be a much more enjoyable ride. Can anyone suggest campsites along the Oregon Coast that are biker friendly, as well as ones to avoid?

Hopefully, I will be able to meet some of you at some of the MOA meetings in the near future.

Enjoy your summer.

Welcome to the forum! Your F800 should serve you well...beautiful riding up there in BC.

Welcome to the club. I've had my F800GS for over 7 years and absolutely love riding it. I've done quite a few upgrades to it over the years and it is a very capable bike both on and off the asphalt. Better is a relative thing depending upon how you want to use the bike and what you expect from it. Enjoy your new bike and your travels. :ca

Welcome! I think you'll be happy with the 800, about the same power as my 1150GS if I'm not mistaken. Stay safe!

PGEYEDOC how far south on the oregon coast were you going to go on your trip? I may be able to help you out for camping area. Eugene:wave

Hi Eugene
Depending on available time, we are hoping to make it as far south as the California border, then we'll have to head home. Any suggestions on good campsites would be greatly appreciated.

The tour traps are Seaside, Cannon Beach, Lincoln City and Bandon. Must see are The Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hecela Head Lighthouse. I can fill you in on campsites if you can answer the above questions please. Thank you.
