Turf and Surf Rig

There are boatloads ( I couldn't resist ) of boat-shaped sidecars on the net. Other than the aerodynamic benefit of a pointy front, I wonder why so many of them exist? I guess it's just a logical progression of form, maybe.

I thought it was a "chair"? Or a "tug". I suppose there are pictures of those, too.
 
Wish I had a picture.

Years ago (like 40 or so...) used to see a silver haired couple riding with a side hack in Reno. The motorcycle was a Honda 305 Dream, the rig was a carpeted platform, with a velour upholstered wingback Victorian chair solidly attached. The whole kit and caboodle done up in shades of lavender. I believe the chair had a seatbelt attached. Don't think that they went anywhere out of town, but they were always smiling...
 
In the vernacular the "tug" is the motorcycle itself. The rear wheel/tire being the "pusher".

Flying the chair, and with aplomb, I might add.
