    Metzler Tires

Does anyone know the difference between the m and o rating for the Z8 Interact tires?

    Metzler Tires The Answer

This is the answer I received from Metzler:

For the ROADTEC Z8 ITNERACT the rear comes in a 180/55ZR17 size in the M spec (dual compound) and the O spec (dual compound and 2 ply carcass) and the same idea as discussed below holds true here.

We offer many OEM tires in the Roadtec Z6 and Z8 range with O, M, K, B, etc., spec tires. These tires have a different carcass or compound to meet the needs of the intended application. But new for 2016 is the Roadtec 01 tires, and to simplify things in we changed to spec letter tires to simply HWM for heavy weight motorcycle and this is marked on the sidewall.

The idea with the HWM tires is that they offer more stability and mileage than the standard product especially when the bike is loaded heavy. The front HWM tire features a slightly different construction and rear features a 2 ply carcass and a few other changes. So if you are not riding your R1200RT heavily loaded or not riding long distances and mileage is not a big thing to you use the standard tires. Or use at least the rear HWM as it will give better mileage.

Now the question is whether one should ever use the standard tire on an RT.
