Wheel Truing Services in Midwest

Anyone know of some one that can true airhead wire spoke wheels in the Midwest? I am in Indiana and am looking to find someone within 100 miles or so.

There are other wheel services listed in the link in my signature line. One of them, Lonnie Walker, I don't believe is doing this anymore but has this page:

For some reason, I thought he was located somewhere in the Midwest, but I could be wrong.

Kurt--the link to Lonnie was most interesting. Confirms all of the stuff I had learned about trueing wheels over the years, especially the comment about BMW's run out specs being unrealistic.

Believe me, don't let just anyone attempt this procedure. I once worked with a great one years ago who could do this in a short time with very little effort. But . . . it is very difficult for regular folks like me, and there are a lot of folks who "think" they can do it! I am NOT one of them!!

Jon at Taurus Cycle in Bloomington IL has done a few for me. Great work and he doesn't charge near enough IMHO

If it's for a GS then you will probably need to send it off to Woody's. The tubeless rims aren't as easy as traditional wheels.

You are going to end up shipping it someplace perhaps so......check out Woody's.......Best there is:

+1 for Woody's!

Thanks for the tips, guys. No, this is not for a GS, just my old R90S. I have done a few wheels myself but this latest one just doesn't want to get with the program. Or maybe I don't have the patience I used to. Problem with some place like Woody's is that the shipping kills you.

Dave Clark is an all around great guy and knows his way around BMWs...has been riding/working on them since the 1960s. He's factory trained for service. Not sure if he does wheels, but you might check with him. He's located in the St. Louis area.

Not fixing the problem is what kills you, not the shipping cost. If it is enough of a problem to trouble you, it's a big enough problem to fix correctly. Crashing is usually more expensive than fixing.

An R90 wheel ought not be terribly difficult. Find a decent dirt bike shop that caters to the guys that bend and break wheels. They should be able to true the wheel, or completely relace it if needed. If not I know from personal experience that Woody's does an excellent job.

Like Paul said, a good dirt bike shop should be able to hook you up. Especially if they cater to racers. They will get the rim running true and have all of the spokes torqued to the same value. Doing it correctly is actually more technical and process generated than most people think.
