Please help me identify my grandma's motorcycle.

A friend was rebuilding one of those when I was in high school. It had a very interesting cam drive, using two "dog bone" connecting rods.

I don't remember it running, but while it was apart, it was fun to spin the engine and watch the cam rotate. Guess we were pre-computer geeks...
:rolleyes

NSU was quite innovative. As I understand it, in the post war era, Curtiss-Wright was allocated chunks of NSU Intellectual Property. They picked and chose what they were interested, but never made a success of any of the intellectual booty. They (C-W) saw a future for the Wankel engine in lawn mowers, but not cars.......

Thank You

I just want to say thank you to all who replied. I never expected it to be narrowed down to specific models with pictures going off such a old picture. It has been interesting reading about a motorcycle company I never knew existed. I thought I would post it here on a whim and appreciate your efforts in figuring it out. Oma was a feisty and stubborn german. I think this picture will always bring a smile to my face.

There are some pretty sharp eyes here on the forum! And, also, welcome to the forum!!
