Where's This?

I drove thru there as the sun was going down.. then it got dark.
From the sun's position, I'm guessing the east side of hwy 20.

Yes, just on the east side of the divide. The west side is more spirited riding though, and the east side is deer kill capital of Washington.

It's on WA-20, just on the east side of Washington Pass, below Liberty Bell Mountain, looking in the eastbound direction of the road. Right after that swooping 180 the road is all downhill into Mazama and the Methow (Met-how) Valley, about 10 miles away. Winthrop, a bit further down the road, is a popular tourist spot with it's old west style main street.

Winthrop, Mountain Biker's Paradise

I have another 'Tourist Roadside Stop'
Well SFDoc, I'm not really sure, but it does remind me of UT-12 in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Nope wrong state, go farther south.

Guys and Gals,

Here is one for us Southerners, and I bet a lot of folks have been here to boot.

BRP (Thinking North near Boone?)

Second guess: Nantahala Dam, Aquone NC.

Not Boone, but a place where most everyone stops when they are in the area...

I give up, all the Lakes are down south, SURE IS PRETTY anyway. I remember the first time I rode it, North from Ashland to Boone. Spent the night in a campground two older dudes were headed south and camping. They told me I missed the best part so I re-rode it back south and went all the way to GA State Line, before hightailing it back to Bragg in one-day.

Hint, it's not on the East coast.

OK John, you are looking west on the eastside of the Rockies, the terrain looks ragged, kinda like Northern WY or somewhere in MT. Are you looking at the Grand Tetons?
