    Hello from Missouri !

Just wanted to say hello and do a lot of research on your forum. I am age 60 been riding since 1974, currently ride a 2010 Ultra Classic. Being 5'7 with a 30 inch inseam I have always stayed away from BMW's because they didn't fit me well. I started out on a 175 Kawasaki dirt bike and from there I went with Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and finally Harley. I want my next bike to be smaller and lighter, I ride solo 100 percent of the time. I must have bags and a shield with the capability of doing long distance. I am kind of interested in the new R1200RT and was wondering how it might fit a guy my size ? I read where there is an optional low seat at 29.5 inches high. Are there any of you my size with this bike ? Thank you for any information that might be helpful.

    Welcome to the forum!
Seems like BMW is hearing the call for lower seating positions-they will have one for you. Big selling point on the HD is comfort seat height.

I'm sure there is a way to get these BMW's lower for us shorter riders. In the case of my Harley I purchased a custom made low profile seat. In addition to that I purchased a 1 inch lowering kit, my feet are flat on the ground. With my bike weighing 900 lbs I have to feel like I'm planted solid. I was reading the new R1200RT weighs 604 lbs and has an optional seat height of 29 1/2 inches. That sounds like what I'm thinking I might like. I don't have a BMW dealer within 100 miles but hopefully I'll get by that dealer one of these days.
